why work with Mr. Massie?

As a parent, you want the best education for your child.

the best education requires high quality instructors.

When you ask exceptional individuals to identify influences on their success, they often name a particular educator who saw a spark in them and spent the time to help it to grow.  In my twenty-five years as a teacher of mathematics and special education, I’ve always felt a deep responsibility to fulfill this promise to seek out and cultivate that spark in my students.

All my sessions are grounded in a deep knowledge of mathematics and a genuine respect and appreciation for my students.  In order to be effective, kids must enjoy our time together and leave feeling renewed and motivated.  I work hard toward this.

By design, learning is meant to be a challenge. If it’s not, the student is not at the appropriate level.  But struggle is often confused with failure.  By motivating them and acknowledging their efforts, students redefine struggle as a sign of learning.

I make the case to students that a high standard is important, then follow it up with quality instruction, ongoing encouragement, and an honest dedication to their success so your child has a safe space to be challenged and grow.

Over time, with my inspiration and support, your child will see real academic results from their hard work and investment.  This authentic, hard-earned success becomes the most gratifying motivator and instills them with a confidence to persevere.

With a Bachelor of Science in Special Education, a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education, and 25 years experience in middle and high school, including an eight-year tenure at Carol Morgan School, I’m well-versed at communicating mathematics to adolescent minds.

I live in La Zona Colonial with Chelsea, my darling wife of 20 years and the architect of our aptly named home La Junglita. We ride bicycles and cook. We sew and paint and make candles and ceramics. We love to learn new things.

We’ve lived and worked across the US as well as Antarctica and Germany, but Santo Domingo is home. We’re involved in many communities here and are so grateful for the kindness we’ve received. My professional success is a reflection of this genuine investment.
